Travelling Ladders
Following a recent accident, members are advised to check all traveling ladders in frame rooms, equipment room and similar before use. A visual inspection of the fabric of the ladder should be carried out together with a check on the inspection date. Gradually apply a medium pressure to the ladder with the brake on, stopping immediately if it starts to move. Where the overhead rail is made up of more than section, the brake test should be repeated for each section before use. If you find that a traveling ladder fails on any of these points it should not be used. The ladder should be taken out of service, labeled as faulty and reported. The Branch Health & Safety Reps carry 'Do Not Use' signs for ladders which can be used if you find a faulty ladder.
